Dear valued community,
When quarantine seemed imminent I reached out to all of my clients and sent them a shopping cart from perform better with all of the equipment I thought they would need (Kbs, bands – different weights and resistances for each) for an extended period of time away from the gym. Most clients ordered and became excited about their new home gym.
In the beginning I offered complimentary sessions to work through the kinks (connection, camera angles. Work out space) and helped them visualize what the program would look like, and how it related to what we could accomplish at the gym. I reached out again individually to each client to check in on them , and made the focus less about training and more about the relationship.
I was surprised early on that people in their own homes worked harder, I had to coach less, and the comfort of their own surroundings made them move more confidently. The truth is that they think they need me to tell them what to do, or to fix something , but online removes that from the equation. “Less options = more work “ – Pavel. They are empowered to use what they have , and the separation of trainer and client benefits them greatly.
Here is a sample letter I sent out:
“To pivot from in gym or clinic to online training you will need to purchase equipment so your clinician/coach can set up a program for you to complete in comfort of your own home. Each day will include a different training session, and individualized to you while practicing social distancing.
I think its important during this time you maintain your routine so you’re able to stay on track for your goals, and battle becoming stir crazy in this anxiety provoking environment.
All equipment can be found on www.performbetter.com. Screen shots are attached of each shopping cart you will need to purchase. Top is for recommended weights for women, bottom for men. These items will be useful for the duration of time you can’t make it to the gym, but you will also be able to use them on your own when we resume in person.
Recommend gear from www.performbetter.com ; 10- 12 kg :
- 2 12 kg kettlebells (squats, deadlifts, swings, presses, arm bars can all be accomplished) + optional 1 10 kg (for lighter pressing + arm bars for beginners)
- Recovery package which includes (lacrosse ball, mini band, thicker band, mini foam roller)
- Speed Jump Rope
In the meantime while the gear arrives, you can use what you have to continue your program.
Stay safe, healthy, and let’s get through this together. I will do whatever I can in my power to help each and every one of you through these tough times. We will emerge stronger and more aware for enduring this.
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns!
Best,
Hunter (hunter@reloadpt.com)”
